The Top 10 Worst Locations for Financial Seminars
Financial Seminar Locations
The three most important factors for holding a successful financial seminar are location, location, and location. While that may seem repetitive, it carries the message of just how important your venue is and how this choice can affect your results.
Your location is your magnet and truly one of the most critical factors for your event. While we have found that the best location for a financial seminar is a well-known, medium priced restaurant, many of our clients choose to hold their events at other locations. Here are a list of locations we have found that statistically produce poor results.
The Worst 10 Seminar Locations:
1. The Elks Club, VFW or other lodges
2. Recreation or conference centers
3. Golf country clubs
4. Restaurants that serve ethnic foods (except Italian) or with odd names (anything medieval)
5. College campuses
6. Churches
7. Bars
8. Hotels
9. Libraries
And the WORST location to hold a seminar:
10. Your office

Thanks for an excellent list of places NOT to host a seminar. I still
remember showing up to speak at a seminar for someone that invited me
to speak at. Just as we got started after the meal, a local softball
team (all teenagers) showed up and the restaurant sat them just outside
of the door to the room where we were hosting the seminar. If their
celebration over winning the game wasn’t enough, one of them also had
a birthday so of course, the entire wait staff had to sing to them.
When that happened, I simply stopped my presentation and asked our
attendees to join in the singing and afterward, we all shouted “Happy
Birthday”. It was probably one of the best ice breakers that I could
have planned (even though I didn’t) because people got to see that we
were real people and could think on our feet.

Location really is key…especially in big cities. Choose a restaurant within 5 miles of your office. Everyone loves Italian food. If you’re doing a dinner seminar ask the manager if you can order off the lunch menu to save a few bucks. To simplify things, only offer 1 or 2 entrées.
I’d like to see a follow-up article showing the statistics behind the list.

I held my first “educational” seminar at the Golden Corral Buffet, which has a very wide variety of food, one price for all, and when it was all said and done, the cost was $174. but my ROI was $28,000. Not a bad day at the office. Most of these places have private rooms just for that purpose, as does Perkins Restaurants. Good food low cost, easy to find, and the room is small enough to give that one on one feeling to everyone in the room. Humor is always a winner.

Some companies still don’t understand the key benefits of online marketing. Tends to make that it is hard to sell in my business!
